I want you to imagine with me for a moment that I have a bucket with four holes in the bottom of it. Fill it with water and what happens. Of course, all the water will run out of the bucket (so you’ll need to have another container to catch the water). After the water runs out, try it again. They try it a third time. What happens each time? The water runs out, right? So why fill the bucket that won’t hold water?
Even though the bucket doesn’t hold water, notice that the water is keeping the bucket clean!
Our daily devotions do the same thing. On days when you don’t feel like doing them, don’t feel like you’re getting anything out of them, or have to rush through them, remember that devotions are still beneficial to you. Even if they run right through you like water comes out of our bucket full of holes, they still keep you clean.
Just as taking a shower in the morning gets rid of bed head, you time alone with God can keep you from having a spiritual bad hair day. You’ll feel fresh as a daisy and ready to take on whatever the world throws at you.
So, let those devotions run right through you!
